The first edition of the "Hero Dogs" trophies organised by the Central Canine Society, was held on Thursday 7 December last. In the magnificent setting of the Paris City Hall, 10 dogs were rewarded for their heroism.
On this occasion, the Curie Institute awarded Nykios in the category of the disease detector dog, as part of the KDOG project.
Supported by SERIS and its dog expertise, KDOG is a multidisciplinary research project for breast cancer screening based on the principle of canine odorology initiated by Isabelle Fromantin.
The results of Nykios were impressive and the dog was rewarded for his work at this ceremony by Natacha Harry, member of the jury, president of the SPA, veterinarian, producer and journalist.
Learn more about the KDOG program:
KDOG is a research program in the field of cancer screening, based on canine sense of smell using a reliable, reproducible, non-invasive and inexpensive method that offers an alternative to the current means of detection. KDOG could thus simplify the diagnosis and extend cancer screening to a larger population.
